Cat Sketch Fever: Fat Cat Series 7
This one made me sad. I was already sad. Nick had just left for college and I spent the day cleaning out his room. ( With all his treasures gone the room was still a mess! 18 years of a mess.
Cat spent the entire time in the room on Nick's couch. Like this. Just a broken- hearted kitty.

Fat Cat Series, Art Journaling, Daily Sketches, sketching, sketchy, drawings, drawing, art, Cats, Kittens
We were told Cat was 8 weeks old, but when we picked her up she was itty bitty, not yet weened and somewhat frail. But precious. The single mother of toddlers who sold us Cat was stressed out and wanted the kittens GONE. The vet guessed Cat was 4 weeks at best.
She developed diarrhea ( can be deadly in such a tiny, young creature) and we had to watch over her carefully night and day for weeks. She was fed formula out of a bottle.
This Cat loves to eat. She meows incessantly when she finds her food dish empty, even if she isn't at all hungry. It's the principle of an empty dish, to this fat cat.

#30paintingsin30days, floral paintings, Botanic Gardens, oil paintings, Tracy Haines
Day # 8 of the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge!
Today's painting was done en plein air at Denver's Botanic Gardens. What a gorgeous day it was- perfect weather and unending material from which to paint. It was amazing to see so many other artists out there today. Several groups were there including Plein Air Artists Colorado, Golden Triangle Plein air, and a class from the Art Students League. Seemed like about 40-50 painters and lots of curious onlookers!
Botanic Gardens is a 10x10" oil on 1" stretched canvas.
It is sold unframed and is up for bidding on eBay now until 9/15/15.
Bid Here: eBay bidding for this piece
Below is an edited black and white version. I like to drop my painting into photo editor to check the reading of the values; especially when I use bright colors, which can be deceiving. The values MUST read, and be interesting, or the painting does not work, regardless of how nice the color might be.

Tracy Haines pastels landscapes paintings impressionism plein air colorado crested butte
Title: Streams Sing
Artist: Tracy Haines
Medium: Pastel on Wallis professional sanded paper mounted to foam core.
Size: 9x12
Unframed
This is one of many plein air pieces I did on a trip back to Crested Butte, Colorado earlier this July. The scenes everywhere were simply show-stopping. It was the week of the wildflower festival. This year the color purple seemed to dominate over the yellow we saw in abundance last year. I loved the way the beautiful cerulean-cobalt blue stream cut and zigzagged through the summer-green, flower- laden fields. The purple mountains in the back set the scene off nicely. |

The painting will be carefully sandwiched between two pieces of foam core, with glassine taped over the image. The painting should be taken to a framer once you receive it and will need to be framed behind glass. I have shipped pastels in this manner without problems thus far.
