Along the Road Leading to Hagerman Pass

One day on a painting trip over in the Aspen and Basalt area I braved a lone excursion over Hagerman Pass in the trusty ole white Honda Pilot. I was scared, very scared at one point, but the frightening yet exciting adventure was well worth the painitings and photos I got!!!

Beckoning

This scene was a challenge on an 18 x 24 panel since it is a quiet, simple scene with few main masses. It ended up having a sort of Russian style quality to it at the end.

Willows Frame the Bend

Recently I watched an intructional video by Jim Wilcox. It was one of the best I've yet seen. In this painting I tried to incorporate some of the techniques I learned from Mr. Wilcox. I like this piece and might try it on a larger scale.

The Valley After Light Snow

Ken Caryl Valley after snow: the abstract quality of this particular scene was attractive to me; depicting it in oil rather than pastel ( much easier for me) was a great opportunity to push through some technical difficulties.

Try to Remember

The walk this crispy autumn day along Kenosha Pass on the Colorado trail was , well, artful. How I wish I'd had my pastels along to paint right there on the spot. There's just nothing not to love about this state. I even love the sound of the name "Colorado"!

This little study in pastel of an Alabama banana bush came from the same walk that yesterdays painting came from. Painting is a great way to capture wonderful memories along the journey!

Along the Golf Course

15 minutes into a walk along the golf course behind dad's house in Alabama, I fell in love with this view and made everybody backtrack to get my camera. We all got twice the amount of exercise we planned but it was sure worth it!

NIck

This is another quick sketch of Nick done in pastel on Canson Mi Tientes paper. Although I am a landscape painter, it is helpful to do an occasional portrait or figure as it develops and refines drawing skills.

This is a pastel sketch of Nick in a clown hat at an age when he loved to walk around the house wearing wacky items. I wish I'd have taken more pictures.
