Winding up Antler Ridge in Indian Mountain, my sister Becky and I were struck by this gorgeous view.

Haines original art landscape paintings oil on canvas mount Elbert Colorado mountains fall foliage aspen trees paths

Mount Elbert is a 9x12 oil on linen canvas attached to masonite. This piece was done plein air.

Thrice I've tried to climb this 14er!  Each time we were forced to turn around and beat a hasty retreat. At one point we were a mere 30 minutes from the peak.  One day, perhaps. (although this ole body is starting to kick back against things like 14ers.....)

I was attracted to the gorgeous colors of the scene here and also liked the vertical light aspen trees against the parallel arrangement of bands of colors from the ground on up to the sky.

Title: Cool Lair Day
Artist: Tracy Haines
Medium: Acrylic on 140 lb heavy watercolor paper
Size: 2 1/2 x 3 1/2  (Standard ACEO size)
Spring is my favorite season for painting at Lair of the Bear in Colorado.  The golden yellow glowing willows seem to shout for pure joy against the melting snow. The streams run high and very blue this time of year: just a gorgeous array of colors for the painter!

On this gorgeous, crisp, cool fall day I set up my easel and painted this sweet aspen tree.  It glowed against a sublime backdrop of deepening blue-purple mountains as the sun began to descend.

Title:  Neighbor
Artist: Tracy Haines
Medium:  acrylic on 6x6x11/4 inch wrapped canvas
 Size: 6x6"
Unframed :  This piece can hang on the wall from a nail as is, or can stand on a tabletop

I see this view from my upstairs window each morning.  The light this day was just lovely.
My work varies from impressionistic to occasionally expressionistic.
Expressionism seeks to depict the feeling of the place, pushing colors and values as needed to relate the scene as experienced by the painter at the time. On this occasion, I did not need to push color much, except in the foreground  lawn a bit to make the painting really "sing".

Tracy Haines original art paintings in pastels, oils and acrylics colorful Colorado landscapes mountains sunsets affordable wall art for home

Title:  Beautiful for Spacious Skies
Artist: Tracy Haines
Medium: Pastel on sanded professional and archival Wallis paper mounted to foam core
Size:  11x14
Unframed

The colors of the landforms underneath the lovely night sky at dusk begged to be painted. This scene was found near our cabin in the Indian Mountain area near Como,  Colorado
The painting will be carefully sandwiched between two pieces of foam core, with glassine taped over the image.  The painting should be taken to a framer once you receive it and will need to be framed behind glass. I have shipped pastels in this manner without problems thus far.

Haines pastel painting plein air impressionism wall art Colorado trees

Trees Convene
11x14 Pastel

I was attracted to the interplay between the tree trunks and yellow lit field.  The trees seemed to be in conversation.  The calligraphic quality of the foliage was interesting, too.

Dramatic Sky Series#2

This scene was found as I was rollerblading along the Platte River near Santa Fe one evening. I was glad I had my camera with me.

Colorado Fall, 5x7 oil on canvas panel,  $ 35

One of my favorite things to do in the fall is ride my little motorcycle along the barren dirt roads near our cabin.  Often, campers have fires going. The crisp fall air combined with the smell of burning logs and pine tree is simply intoxicating. I break out in song as I ride. Can't help it.

Tracy Haines fine art original art affordable paintings birds

This painting, entitled  Pretty Bird ( EB #133) is a 5x7 oil on canvas panel.
Love birds.  We used to have a nasty conure named Sal.  He was pretty, but he liked no one.  He was just a miserable bird.  I felt bad constantly, seeing Sal cooped up in his cage.  We finally gave him to another person who loved birds and was willing to put up with Sal's lousy attitude.  I don't know this bird that I painted here.  He looks like a nice bird though.....

Tracy Haines Ken Caryl Valley Colorado Mountains trees oil painting

Ken Caryl Valley Hike( EB 132) is an 8x10 oil on 1/4" masonite prepared with PVA sizing followed by 3 applications of gesso.

This scene has been on my mind a long time. The composition from the photograph wasn't quite right, but still, I continued to love the photo every time I saw it.   Finally, a thumbnail sketch, moving the elements around until I was satisfied, helped transition it into a painting.

Towards Steamboat Springs ( EB 130) is an 8x10 oil on 1/4" masonite prepared with PVA sizing followed by 3 applications of gesso.

Painting pal Holly and I drove towards Cataract Lake to plein air paint. Took us forever to arrive though, because we wanted to stop to photograph the breathtaking scenes all along the way.  Have I mentioned what a blessing upon blessing it is to live in the great state of Colorado?

    Painters Paradise.

    Ken Caryl Sprinklers
    8x10 Oil on masonite

Walking my dog along the Ken Caryl Ranch greenbelt around 7 pm I was struck by the beauty and simplicity of the scene before me.  I liked the night sky and loved the look when the sprinklers came on;  just the perfect element needed to make the scene an original  painting!
Buildings, along with obnoxious tall, bright lights are starting to pop up all over the area, ruining my lovely sky line.   This peaceful walk along the belt towards the mountains is not what it used to be 18 years ago.

Tracy Haines fine art original oil paintings California impressionist painting coastline ocean cypress

California Coastline ( EB 127) is an 8x10 oil on 1/4" masonite prepared with PVA sizing followed by 3 applications of gesso.

This is just one of the many scenes I happened upon on my recent plein air painting trip to Carmel, California.  A little slice of heaven is the entire region around Carmel, isn't it?  Loved the calm and quiet against the active and noisy parts of the sea, the lone cypress taking it all in, and the warm greens of the surrounding land.

Tracy Haines fine art landscapes oil paintings impressionistic, barns, ranches, farms

Rustic Barn Blue roof ( EB 126) is an 8x10 oil on 1/4" masonite prepared with PVA sizing followed by 3 applications of gesso.

The blue roof on this rustic barn caught my attention. The shapes of the trees, branches and shadows set the scene off beautifully. The time of the day added to the nicety of the scene.  Wouldn't you love to plop yourself down on a nearby hammock , take in the warmth of the sun, the sounds of the birds and read a good book?  Whatever happened to the so- called lazy summer day?

Tracy Haines original fine art colorado landscape daily paintings aspen mountains

Late Aspen ( EB 125) is an 8x10 oil on 1/4" masonite prepared with PVA sizing followed by 3 applications of gesso.

Typical yellow-orange fall foliage in Colorado is gorgeous, but there is something spectacular -looking to the post-peak appearance of bands of aspen in the late fall.  The grayish, pastel-like, soft, almost billowy cloud of tree top against distant mountain line pleaded to be painted.
