Winter at MWP above was completed in the studio after I had done a plein air study on location.  I love doing winter scenes, partly because I just love to paint with blue!

Well, my studio re-organization project is coming along nicely.  On a whim,  I decided to paint two of the walls with a warm, neutral gray.  I think I like it, but will live with the color for a bit before putting things back in place.  Want to make sure it does not leave the studio too dark.

I have been a bit under the weather all week with a re-root canal proceedure that has not gone as smoothly as in the past.
I'll spare you the details, but suffice it to say, I shall keep this post shorter than usual.

If you are in the Breckenridge area July 24-26, please stop by the Breckenridge Main Street Art Festival.

Until next week........

Title:  Hill's Pattern in Crested Butte

Artist: Tracy Haines

Medium: Pastel on black Canson mi Tientes mattboard

Size:  8x10

Unframed

This is one of many plein air pieces I did on a trip back to Crested Butte, Colorado earlier this July.  The scenes everywhere were simply show-stopping.  It was the week of the wildflower festival.  This year the color purple seemed to dominate over the yellow we saw in abundance last year.  I loved the pattern the hills and trees made, and the hint of the stream leading the eye comfortably into the composition.

Title:  O'Fallon Park Artist: Tracy Haines Medium: Oil on linen canvas on masonite Size : 9x12 Unframed This painting was done en plein air on a beautiful spring day in the mountains of Colorado.  It was delightful to paint on such a crisp, fresh morning to the music of a swiftly flowing stream!

Title: Cool Lair Day Artist: Tracy Haines Medium: Acrylic on 140 lb heavy watercolor paper Size: 2 1/2 x 3 1/2  (Standard ACEO size) Spring is my favorite season for painting at Lair of the Bear in Colorado.  The golden yellow glowing willows seem to shout for pure joy against the melting snow. The streams run high and very blue this time of year: just a gorgeous array of colors for the painter!

Winter Lake is a 5x7 acrylic painting on canvas panel.  Colorado skies are sublime. The sky this day cast a gorgeous array of subtle colors over the partly frozen lake and permeated the surrounding snow-covered land, trees and bushes. Some scenes paint themselves!

Blue Streams is a small 5x7 acrylic on canvas panel study from Lair of the Bear. I am reworking a similar scene as a very large painting.  This study was a re-working of the larger first attempt- changing a few shapes and structures for a better over all design.

The drive back to Colorado from Nebraska is relaxing and actually very pretty in places. I had to pull over for this scene.  The light hit just right, and the water reflected the sky color in such a paintable way.
This is acrylic on watercolor paper. A 5x7 image with a margin of white paper for framing.

I found this lovely scene on a drive in the early spring from Breckenridge towards Fairplay.
It just sold on eBay. It is a 16x20 oil painting. I can't get enough of the willows against snow. The warm orange- green of the background trees frames the focal point nicely.

I ventured on a solo painting trip last fall.  Packed paints, dog and headed out in jeep.  I got up at dawn, drove from the cabin towards Buena Vista, then to a campsite on the Arkansas river.  I loved the first light.  Renoir ( Rennie) had a great time chasing off the cows that kept coming to see what I was painting.  This was the first of many paintings this day.  Great day!!!

This is my first ACEO (art "trading card"). It is a 2 1/2x3 1/2" acrylic on 140lb watercolor paper.  Thought I would try this on eBay and see how things go.

I start all my auctions at a dollar.  I am following the advise of an artist who did this. I hope to give it a year then re-evaluate things.

Those who live
in Colorado know
the beauty of willows
against fresh fallen snow.

This quick 5x7 acrylic on watercolor paper sketch is, of course, yet another from the 'never disappoints', Lair of the Bear.
(Where else, right?)
And why not?  When a painter or photographer, or landscape appreciator, finds a spot she loves, why not go back and back.......

This will be up on eBay at 5 pm on 3/3/14.  If you would like to bid, search EB43 on eBay.
